Lack of sleep increases the risk of death from stroke

A 16-year study has shown that sleeping less than 6 hours per night doubles the risk of stroke.

American physicians have established that chronic lack of sleep increases the risk of death from stroke in people with diabetes and cardiovascular diseases, reports RIA News.

Experts recommend that such individuals sleep at least six hours per night. Otherwise, according to the researchers, the likelihood of a fatal outcome due to stroke is twice as high as in healthy people who sleep more than six hours per night.

The doctors reached these conclusions after observing 1,344 randomly selected men and women, among whom they identified a risk group. This group included people with high body mass index, high cholesterol levels, and high blood pressure. The study was conducted over a period of 16 years.
